I'm guessing that if I use it'll give me data since the beginning. Would need to find the for today. The spread of time that you're looking at will probably adjust the resolution of what data you get back, i. Work out what resolution you need hourly data, daily data, or whatever , have a look to see if you can work out how to retrieve that on the page, and then you'll probably want to write a script to automate retrieval of the data where it will be able to request the data and update the timestamp parameters automatically.
I went through the developer tools, but couldn't find the data for the other chart excluding bitcoin. Probably something not too dissimilar. Any sense for what that could be? Also provides the Market Cap and Volume so your code would probably start to work straight away on this endpoint if you swapped them out.
I'm not actually scraping any of this data, so can't give definite recommendations, just having a poke around under the hood, but if you keep an eye on the network tab as you play with the site, you should be able to work out how it's all held together. Thank again. Take all the upvotes they allow me. What about looking at individual exchanges?
Don't see an API endpoint. If you then take the slug from the returned JSON array, you could then request each of the exchange pages, i. It all seems to be quite well formed. If you used python, you might use the requests library to retrieve the page, and then parse it using beautifulsoup. From there you can save to a database or output to CSV or whatever you want.
That only seems to show the data from the last 24 hours however, it doesn't have historical data, and it doesn't state when those 24 hours started. The data available from this site is quite limited.
Remember though, CMC isn't the only player in this space, it might be worth having a look around at other services and seeing if they have the data you're after, and if they offer an API for easy retrieval for whatever you're up to.
Alternatively, a lot of the exchanges will have their own APIs that you can connect to and directly retrieve the data from the exchange, for example, Binance or Coinbase. It really depends on what you're trying to achieve. Maybe try looking at a few other sites. Even without an api, there must be some way of grabbing the data from the web page source, I just have no idea how to. Not using the API, go to the coin, scroll down to the chart, click historical data.
If you need to use python you can get the data from that page. The question isn't how to do this. The question is how much do you want to spend? If you want to add new coins, on different exchanges, for longer periods, you're talking about incredibly expensive financial information, which will be held on to by the exchanges.
